ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Thursday, while declaring the contempt of court application maintainable submitted by supermodel Ayyan Ali against Ministry of Interior, issued notices to Secretary Interior, Additional Secretary Interior, Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) chairman and DG Immigration Karachi Airport.
A three-member bench headed by Justice Sheikh Amjad Saeed conducted the hearing., Sardar Latif Khosa, Ayyan Ali’s council, informed the court of law violations by Interior Ministry’s officials.
Prosecutor Rana Waqar said that Ayyan Ali’s plea against Sindh High Court’s (SHC) verdict was not maintainable and is in the court’s discretion to whether hear the case or not. Justice Dost Muhammad remarked that if contempt of court is not proved then application will be dismissed to which Sardar Latif Khosa replied, “If Pervaiz Musharraf can go abroad then why Ayyan Ali couldn’t?”
Advocate Shafqat Munir Malik, counsel of Custom Inspector Ijaz Chaudhry’s widow, informed the court that Ayyan Ali was arrested from Islamabad’s Benazir Bhutto International Airport on March 14 with USD 500,000, adding that the money recovered from her was in the custody of Custom Inspector Ijaz Chaudhry.
Munir Malik told the court that two unidentified gunmen broke into the inspector’s house and fired multiple shots at him. He was rushed to the Benazir Bhutto Hospital where he succumbed to injuries.
Justice Tariq Masood probed the deceased’ widow if the magistrate issued an arrest warrant of Ayyan Ali in the murder case to which the widow‘s counsel replied that the magistrate did not issue the arrest warrants. Munir Malik informed the court that an FIR was registered with Waris Khan police station adding that a statement was also recorded in this regard but the police took no action against culprit.
He also requested the court that Ayyan Ali should not be excluded from the Exit Control List (ECL) until the petitioner was heard. After hearing the prosecutor and Ayyan Ali’s counsel, the Supreme Court adjourned the hearing till after the Eid Holidays.
