LAHORE – Former PEPCO managing director Tahir Basharat Cheema was presented to Accountability Court in Lahore on Friday.
The NAB officials arrested Tahir on May 5. He was accused of unmerited inductions in Gujranwala Electric Power Company which caused tens of millions in loss to national exchequer. Lahore High Court also ordered to launch an inquiry against him
Tahir was facing charges of misuse of authority during his tenure. The prosecution bench includes the Prosecutors General National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chaudhary Khaliquz aman and NAB Prosecutor Warris Ali.
Sources stated that the arrest was made after the charges were proven and warrants were issued for Tahir. They also said that the prosecution general and the prosecutor will ask the court for a 14-day physical remand of the accused.
